It’s inevitable that as we get older, more is entrusted to us. That can be in life with kids, roles, and even our jobs. With those additional responsibilities come more challenges: leadership, meetings, and extra time working with people. These all require more of our energy and discernment.

That also means that as our roles increase, so must our time in prayer.

As we read in Luke 12:48: “From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked.”

As well as Colossians 4:2 “Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.

This resonated with me this week when Senator John Thune visited our school. A student asked him how he balances being a man of God while living in the political arena, and his response stood out. He shared that the higher he has moved up in his political career, the more he has needed to discern in prayer and that constant prayer has been essential.  He spoke to the students about his need to be in prayer routinely to discern the issues that he deals with personally as well as politically.

It was a great reminder that no matter where we are in life, prayer is crucial. And as more responsibilities are added to our plates, prayer becomes even more necessary to handle them well.
